George Edward Morris, was born and lived in Birkenhead, he enlisted in The Cheshire Regiment and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Private Morris was posted to 11th Parachute Battalion and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, Operation Market Garden.
Pte Morris was injured during or after the landing. Together with other wounded men he ended up in a house in Bennekom, the owner of which, with the aid of several civilians, tried to shelter and nurse them. The Germans found out about this and surrounded the premises. Two of them entered, told the people inside to raise their hands, and opened fire. The private was seriously wounded, having been shot in the abdomen. He was brought to the Ziekenzorg hospital at Wageningen the next morning, where he was operated on. Pte Morris died of his wounds on 23 September 1944, aged 30, he is buried in Wageningen General Cemetery.
