Private George Ayres, husband of Evelyn May Ayres, of Tisman's Common, Rudgwick, Sussex, served with 3rd Parachute Battalion. He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.
Private Ayres died on 18 September 1944, aged 24 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.
