Geoffrey Worgan Phillips was born in Monmouthshire and lived in Newport. He enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Phillips successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 25, from 31 August to 8 September 1942 and was posted to S Company, 7 Platoon, 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Phillips was killed in action on 18 September 1944, aged 21, and was given a field burial in the garden of De Vergarde house, Utrechtseweg, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 14 August 1945.
