Geoffrey Conyers enlisted into the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers and later transferred to the Royal Artillery.
Private Conyers volunteered for airborne forces in 1943 and qualified as a military parachutist on course 71 which ran at RAF Ringway from 5 to 17 July 1943. The course instructors’ notes record ‘Pte Conyers: Nervous but plucky- will do well.’
After initially being posted to the holding unit, he was posted to The 4th Parachute Battalion (4 Para Bn) and was deployed with the battalion on operations to Italy, the South of France (Operation Dragoon), Greece (Operation Manna) and Palestine.
Sergeant Conyers demobbed in December 1946.
