Frederick William Skinner enlisted into the Essex Regiment and at some stage transferred to the 17th Battalion Royal Fusiliers before volunteering for the airborne forces.
Private Skinner attended the 4th advanced parachute course at RAF Ringway from 3 to 7 February 1942 and was then posted to 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Torch in North Africa.
Pte Skinner was killed in action on 6 January 1943, aged 26. He is commemorated on the Medjez-El-Bab memorial. If
