Frederick Raymond Staples was enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps and later served with airborne forces.
Records indicate that he qualified as a military parachutist on Course 35 which ran at RAF Ringway from 29 October to 7 November 1942 and served with the 1st Airlanding Brigade.
It is known that he took part in the Battle of Arnhem attached to the 1st Parachute Brigade Headquarters, probably as part of the Motor Transport section.
Fred Staples was wounded during the battle and taken as a Prisoner of War.
