Frederick Edwin George Selman the son of Herbert and Florence Selman, of Melksham, Wiltshire, enlisted into the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (The West Riding) and transferred to the Norfolk Regiment before volunteering for airborne forces.
Private Selman successfully completed his training at Ringway on Advanced course 2 from 14 to 19 January 1942 and was posted to B Company, the 2nd Parachute Battalion.
He went with the battalion on Operation Torch in North Africa.
Pte Selman was Killed in Action on 29 March 1943, at Djebel Abiod. Initally given a field burial, he re-interred in Beja War Cemetery, Tunisia, on 25 February 1944.
