Frederick Clyne was the son of Leo and Alice Clyne, of Peel Green, Eccles, Lancashire. He enlisted in the Prince of Wales’ Volunteers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Clyne successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 72, from 12 to 25 July 1943. His course report stated “Confident and good jumper”. He was posted to B Company, 13th (2/4th Bn. The South Lancashire Regiment) Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).
Pte Clyne was killed in action on 10 June 1944, aged 22, and was buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
