Frederick Charles Clark, son of Walter Frederick and Caroline Clark; husband of Lilian Clark, of Hornsey, Middlesex, enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Clark successfully completed his parachute training on course number 48 at RAF Kabrit, Egypt, in June 1943. He was posted to HQ Company 11th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Clark was defending houses near the Church at Oosterbeek when they came under direct fire from enemy tanks. He received a severe head wound and lost an eye, and was taken to the house of Kate Ter Horst for treatment, but died of his wounds on 22 September 1944. He was given a field burial in the garden of the Ter Horst family and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 6 August 1945.
