Private Fred Seed

19 May 1923 - 21 Sep 1944

Fred Seed, son of James and Betsy Seed, of Longridge, Lancashire, was born in Alston, Lancashire, he enlisted into The King’s Own Royal Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Seed successfully completed his Glider training and was posted to S Company, 1st (Airborne) Battalion, the Border Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Seed died on 21 September, aged 21. He is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial, for those with no known grave.

Came across this young man’s family grave today that he is on.
Longridge, chapel lane, St Lawrence’s church.
In the bottom field at the end of the path, look up to the church on your left, black marble head stone, In loving memory of Joyce. Fred is underneath.
