Francis George Redding was the son of Joseph and Rose Redding, of Ilford, Essex. He enlisted in The King’s Royal Rifle Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Redding successfully completed his glider pilot training and was posted to F Squadron, 2nd Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sgt Redding died of wounds on 24 September 1944, aged 23, and was given a field burial near the Hartenstein Hotel, after his remains were brought in by local civilians. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 28 August 1945.
