Eric Manley Taylor was the son of Henry and Elsie Taylor, of Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sergeant Taylor successfully completed glider pilot training and was posted to 1st Wing Glider Pilot Regiment, Army Air Corps and took part in Operation Overlord (D day landings).
Sgt Taylor was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 25, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
