Sergeant Eric Hughes was the son of James and Rachael Hughes, and husband of Ada Hughes, of Little Horton, Bradford, Yorkshire. He volunteered for The Parachute Regiment in 1943 and attended parachute training course number 72 at RAF Ringway between 12 and 23 July 1943. His course report stated: 'Finished well after a poor start. Good NCO'.
He served with 13th (South Lancs) Parachute Battalion and took part in the Normandy campaign, during Op Overlord.
Sergeant Hughes died on 23 August 1944, aged 35 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
