Eric Charles Sclater was the son of Charles and Lilian Sclater, of Clapham Common, London. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Gunner Sclater successfully completed glider training and was posted to 1 Airlanding Anti-Tank Battery, Royal Artillery, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Gnr Sclater’s body was recovered from the Rhine on 6 October 1944 and buried in Lexmond General Cemetery. It is presumed that he drowned during the withdrawal on 25/26 September, aged 23. His remains were reinterred in the Canadian War Cemetery at Bergen-Op-Zoom on 10 October 1945.
