Private Edward White

03 Jan 1945

Edward White, son of Edward and Kathleen White, of Radford, Nottingham and husband of Elsie White, of Lenton, Nottingham, enlisted into The Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private White successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 136 from 1 to 17 October 1944. His course report stated reserved, normal reaction, well disciplined’. He was posted to 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion.

He took part in the 6th Airborne Division response to the German counter-offensive in the Ardennes, during Winter 1944-5.

Pte White was killed in action on 3 January 1945, aged 23, and was buried in Bure, Tellin, (Belgium) temporary burial ground. He was later reinterred in Hotton War Cemetery on 22 May 1947.
