Edward Sutton was born in France and lived in Middlesex; he enlisted in the Middlesex Regiment and then volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Sutton successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Kabrit, Egypt, on course number 36, in April 1943, and was then posted to Defence Platoon, Headquarters Company, 4th Parachute Brigade, and took part in the campaign in Italy and then Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Pte Sutton is was killed in Wolfheze on 20 September 1944, aged 27, he is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
