Driver Edward Mervyn Walton was enlisted into The Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces during World War II.
He qualified as military parachutists on Course 102 which ran at RAF Ringway from 7 to 18 February 1944 and later served as a driver with 224 Parachute Field Ambulance.
