Edward Mark Rayner was the son of Edward Mark and Kathleen Rayner, of Southsea, Hampshire, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for Airborne Forces.
Private Rayner successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 79 from 23 August to 2 September 1943, and was posted to 9th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (D Day landings).
Pte Rayner was killed in action on 10 June 1944, aged 19, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
