Driver Edward J R Morris

Edward Joseph Royden Morris was the son of George Joshua and Phyllis Annie (Williams) Morris, of Newent, Gloucestershire. Edward enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Driver Morris successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 138 from 16 to 28 October 1944. His course report stated “Average, good morale, young and underdeveloped”. He was posted to the 716 (Airborne) Light Composite Company, Royal Army Service Corps and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).

Dvr Morris died of wounds on 25 March 1945, aged 19, and was given a field burial at Rhede, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 9 May 1947.
