Douglas Ernest Toogood was born on 22 September 1922 on the Isle of Wight.
He transferred to The Parachute Regiment from the Hampshire Regiment in 1943. In April Corporal Toogood attended parachute training course 59 at RAF Ringway.
Cpl Toogood was posted to the 6th Parachute Battalion, and took part in the amphibious landings into Taranto, Italy in 1943.
In 1944 the Battalion jumped into Southern France, and was part of the Athens occupation force.
Cpl Toogood was transferred to the Reserves in October 1946, and re-enlisted in December 1946.
Douglas Toogood was married to Joyce Walters, and died in April 2009 in Andover.
