Private Desmond E Ford

Desmond Ewart Ford, of Cwmcarn, Monmouthshire, enlisted into the South Wales Borderers and then volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Ford successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course 91 from 11 to 26 November 1943. His course report stated that he had a poor start but improved greatly. He was posted to 6 Platoon, B Company 156 Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. He took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte Ford was killed in action on 25 September 1944, aged 26. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
