Derek Thomas Siddons enlisted into the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment.
Private Siddons volunteered for airborne forces in late 1942 and qualified as a military parachutist on course 50 which ran at RAF Ringway from 8 to 22 February 1943. The course report states 'Pte Siddons: Good control. Keen hard working.'
He was posted to B Company, The 8th (Midland) Parachute Battalion (8th Para Bn) and jumped on Operation Overlord into Normandy on 6 June 1944.
Corporal Siddons was Wounded in Action (WIA) on 15 June 1944 when he was shot through the right thigh.
Cpl Siddons was demobbed in May 1946.
