Dennis Edgar Moorcock was the son of Harold and Elsie Moorcock, of New Eltham, London. He enlisted into the Royal Artillery and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Staff Sergeant Moorcock successfully completed his Glider Pilot training and was posted to F Squadron, 2nd Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
S/Sgt Moorcock was wounded on 19 September 1944, and was killed by a mortar bomb on 20 September, aged 23. He was given a field burial in an isolated mass grave 100 yards west of the Hartenstein Hotel, Oosterbeek, and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 10 September 1945.
