David John England enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private England successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 110. The course lasted from 3 to 14 April 1944 and he was posted to 10th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).

Pte England was killed in action on 19 September 1944, aged 19, and was given a field burial in the region of the Pyschiatric Hospital at Wolfheze and was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 24 August 1945.
