David James Baker enlisted into The General Service Corps during The Second World War before volunteering for airborne forces.
He qualified as a military parachutist on Course 162 which ran at RAF Ringway from 30 April to 7 May 1945. The instructors’ comments reads : Pte Baker ‘Good performer, cheerful and confident.’
Private Baker was initially posted to the Reserve Battalion and then to the 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment in Palestine.
He died on 18 August 1946 aged 20 years old and now buried in Khayat Beach War Cemetery, Israel.
