David Blackwood Maybury was the son of William George and Emilie Maybury, of Talsarnau, Merionethshire; husband of Katherine Pugh Maybury, he enlisted in the Royal Welch Fusiliers and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Maybury successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 103 from 15 to 28 February 1944. His course report stated “Good performer, efficient NCO”. He was posted to B Company, 10 Platoon, 9th Battalion the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Overlord (‘D’ Day landings), and Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Cpl Maybury was killed in action on 24 March 1945, aged 30, whilst taking part in the daylight parachute drop into Germany as part of the Rhine Crossing during operation Varsity and was given a field burial near Merr, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 18 March 1947.
