Daniel Sidlow was the son of Jesse and Lily Sidlow, and husband of Winifred Sidlow, of Harpurhey, Manchester.
He served in the Highland Light Infantry prior to volunteering for British airborne forces at the formation of the 1st Parachute Brigade and was posted to the 3rd Parachute Battalion.
Pte Sidlow attended RAF Ringway for basic parachute training towards the end of 1941 and returned for the 3rd advanced course for brigade personnel which ran at RAF Ringway in January 1942.
He deployed with the battalion to North Africa in November 1942, and took part in heavy fighting against Axis forces.
Pte Sidlow was killed later in the North African campaign at the Battle of Argoub, when four German battalions mounted an attack on the 3rd Para Battalion's defensive positions.
Pte Daniel Sidlow died on 26 February 1943, aged 28 years. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Medjez-el-Bab Memorial in Tunisia.
