Captain Clive M Moncrieff

Clive Mitchell Moncrieff was the son of Alan and Lilian May Moncrieff of Wadhurst, Sussex. He entered School House in 1935 and gained House Colours for cricket. He left for a scholarship with Corpus Christi, Cambridge in 1940. Clive was first commissioned into the Leicestershire Regiment on 20 March 1942 (London Gazette), before volunteering for airborne forces and being attached to 2nd Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.

Captain Moncrieff landed by glider at Hamminkeln, Germany on 24 March 1945 on Operation Varsity as Second-in-Command of Support Company, 2nd Ox and Bucks L.I. After Major Sidney Heath-Smith's death on 24 March 1945, Captain Moncrieff assumed command of Support Company and was killed in action during the daytime on 25 March 1945 in the area of the Hamminkeln-Ringenberg road bridge, which had been blown during the night to prevent a German crossing.

He is now buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Grave 36.A.8.
