Charles Alexander Wrigley was the son of Frank and Isabella Wrigley and husband of Audrey Wrigley, of Rusholme, Manchester. He enlisted into the South Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Volunteers) and volunteered for airborne force when the 13th (Lancashire) Parachute Battalion was formed from the 2nd/4th Battalion The South Lancashire Regiment in May 1943.
Sgt Wrigley undertook military parachute jump training course 72 at RAF Ringway between 12 and 23 July 1943. His course report stated: 'Good man, fine parachutist. Hard worker.’
He saw active service in Normandy, the Ardennes as Company Quartermaster Sergeant (CQMS) C Company (Coy) and went on Operation Varsity as a member of B Coy and a Stick Commander on aircraft No 3 from Brize Norton.
CQMS Wrigley landed in a wood and was shot in the back as he hung in the trees. He is now buried in The Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.
