Sergeant Bruce William Mackenzie, son of Mrs E F Mackenzie, of Wembley, Middlesex, served with E Squadron, Glider Pilot Regiment, possibly with 25 Flight. He took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden.
Sergeant Mackenzie flew to Arnhem with SSgt Dennis Hall during the Second Lift on 18 September 1944. He was killed during the Battle, but his body was never recovered.
After the war, his older brother SSgt Wallace Mackenzie (a glider pilot wounded on landing during the invasion of Sicily) formed part of mission to Arnhem by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission(CWGC) to locate his final resting place, but without success.
Sergeant Mackenzie died on 20 September 1944, aged 21 years old. He is now commemorated on the Memorial at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, near Nijmegen.
