Lieutenant-Colonel Banks Middleton

Thomas Banks Middleton was born in Keswick. He was an SNCO instructor at Brecon in Wales in the late 1960s and also served at the Parachute Regiment Depot as a Lieutenant throughout the 1970s. During the Falklands War he was a Captain in the 2nd Parachute Battalion (listed in the staff list and nominal roll) and fought in the battle of Goose Green.

In his later life, Banks was a treasurer to the board of the Airborne Forces Museum in Aldershot before it moved to Duxford. Additionally, he served as the controller of the Airborne Forces Security Fund. Finally, he was a founder and life member of the Arnhem veterans' club (now known as the fellowship), of which he was also the treasurer for many years. He stood down from this position in 2016. 

He became a Lieutenant with seniority on 24 October 1978 (backdated 24 April 1976). He later advanced to Captain (Quartermaster) on 1 April 1982 before reaching his final rank of Lieutenant Colonel. 

Banks met his wife Enid in 1963. They had a daughter named Jennifer. He died on Saturday 10 June 2023 and his ashes are now together with his wife's in Keswick.
