Austin Roberts was born and lived in Flintshire. He enlisted in the Royal Pioneer Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Serjeant Roberts successfully completed his parachute training at RAF Ringway, on course number 31, from 8 to 18 October 1942 and was posted to 1 (Airborne) Divisional Provost Company, Corps of Military Police, and took part in operations in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Sgt Roberts was killed in action between 22 and 23 September 1944, aged 30, and was given a field burial in an isolated mass grave in Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 13 August 1945.
