Archibald Hill McNaught enlisted in July 1940 into The Queen's Royal Regiment.
He volunteered for airborne forces, and recalled 'driving Capt Ronald Bunzly to London and collecting red berets before they were formally issued.'
Pte McNaught deployed with HQ 1st Airborne Division to North Africa and Italy in 1943.
In August 1944 he sailed as part of the Seaborne Echelon to North West Europe with the 1st British Airborne Corps, Royal Army Service Corps.
He later went on Operation Doomsday when the 1st British Airborne Division flew into Norway on 9 May 1945 to oversee the surrender of German troops.
Pte McNaught was demobilised in January 1946.
