Anthony Leslie Clarke, of Penn, Wolverhampton, enlisted in the Royal Artillery and volunteered for airborne forces.
Corporal Clarke successfully completed his parachute training on course number 20 at RAF Ringway, from 27 July to 3 August 1942. He was posted to T Company, 9 Platoon, 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and took part in the campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Cpl Clarke was killed in action on 24 September 1944, aged 22 and was given a field burial behind the school on Weverstraat, 100 yards east of Oosterbeek church. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 15 August 1945.
