Alun Meilir Davies was the son of William and Martha Davies of Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, he enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Davies successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 96 from 16 to 30 December 1943. His course report stated “Average performer, good reaction and morale”. He was posted to 9th (Essex) Battalion The Parachute Regiment, Army Air Corps, and took part in Operation Overlord (‘D’ day landings).
Pte Davies was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 19, and is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the missing.
