Allan Victor Wake was the son of Victor and Lily Wake, of Thornton Heath, Surrey. He enlisted in the General Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces.
Sapper Wake successfully completed his parachute training on course number 93 at RAF Ringway from 29 November to 13 December 1943. His course report stated “Good average, shows nerves, otherwise steady.” He was posted to C Troop, 1 Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
Spr Wake died of wounds in the St Joseph Psychiatric Hospital at Apeldoorn on 22 December 1944, aged 19, and was given a field burial in the Appeldoorn Municipal Cemetery, Oosterbeek. He was re-interred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 4 October 1945.
