Alfred R Edwards

Alfred Edwards was born on the 29 September 1917, in Swansea, Glamorgan​. The son of Morris and Catherine Ester Edwards, Aberdare, Glamorgan,

He initially enlisted in the Royal Engineers in 1940. He was serving in the Middle East when he volunteered for Airborne Forces and was assigned to the 4th Parachute Squadron, RE as part of the 4th Parachute Brigade.

Alfred was 'jump' trained on Parachute Course No 41 at Ramat David in Palestine. 13 to 19 May 1943. On the Course Report it lists his age as 25. He carried out five aircraft descents to qualify as an Army Parachutist.

He left the 4th Parachute Squadron the 27 April 1944 on transferring to the 2nd Special Air Service Regiment.

He took part in Operation ‘Keystone’, parachuting into Holland on the night of the 11/12 April
1945. He was killed in action on the 18 April 1945. Alfred was 27 years old, when he was killed.

Alfred is  buried at JONKERBOS WAR CEMETERY, 14. E. 6.
