Alfred Anthony Clark was born in South West London and lived in Cheshire. He enlisted in the Royal Engineers, and volunteered for airborne forces.
Staff Sergeant Clark successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to A Squadron, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
S/Sgt Clark and his Co-Pilot were both killed in action when their glider came under fire after landing and went up in flames, they were not seen to get out of the glider. S/Sgt Clark died on 18 September 1944, aged 24, and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the missing.
