Private Alex Lothian

Alex Lothian was the son of Adam and Jane Lothian, of Kelso, Roxburghshire. He enlisted in the Lowland Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.

Private Lothian successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 81, from 6 to 16 September 1943. His course report stated “Average performer, no hesitation.” He was posted to 7th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy).

Pte Lothian was killed in action on 6 June 1944, aged 19, and was buried in Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France.
