Albert Edward Germain was the son of Albert Edward and Ethel May Germain, of Torquay, Devon; husband of Mollie Irma Germain, of Torquay. In 1938 he moved to Bristol and served as a Police Constable until 1942 when he was granted a commission and volunteered for Airborne forces.
Lieutenant Germain successfully completed glider training and was posted to command E Company, Anti-tank Platoon, 12th (Airborne) Battalion, The Devonshire Regiment and took part in Operation Overlord (Normandy) as part of the Regimental Sea Tail.
Lt Germain was killed in action by a German sniper on 11 June 1944, aged 26, and was given a field burial in Le Bas De Ranville and was re-interred to Ranville War Cemetery, Calvados, France, on 29 June 1945.
