Alan White was the son of Marjorie White, of Watford, Hertfordshire. He enlisted in the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Staff Sergeant White successfully completed Glider Pilot training and was posted to C Squadron, The Glider Pilot Regiment, and took part in Operation Market Garden (Arnhem).
S/Sgt White was killed in action between 25 and 26 September 1944, aged 22. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Groesbeek Memorial to the Missing.
