Private Alan Somerville

Extract  from Pegasus Journal dated July 1953: 

OBITURY: PTE. A. SOMERVILLE, 3rd BN. THE PARACHUTRE REGIMENT

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Alan Somerville, who died as a result of a most tragic shooting accident on 20th May, 1953.

Pte. Somerville joined the Battalion in December, 1952, and was posted to "C" Company, where he had been with 7 Platoon till his death.

During his six months with the Company he had proved himself an efficient and conscientious soldier and parachutist, always ready and eager to give of his best.

His loss has been a sad blow to the Company, where his cheerful northern humour will be sadly missed. The circumstances of his death are perhaps particularly tragic since the accident - occurred on his nineteenth birthday, and our heartfelt sympathy is offered to his family in their bereavement.

He was buried with full military honours at a funeral representative of all units in the Brigade, in Moascar Military Cemetery on 22nd May, 1953
