Derek Bradley joined The Parachute Regiment and served with the 23 Parachute Field Ambulance in the late 1950s.
In 1960 the unit went to Newquay for a two week camp. Whilst swimming in the sea, Private Bradley was caught in a riptide and drowned.
He was a keen and talented football player, playing for Belper Town and Gresley Rovers, and was invited to attend trials for Blackburn Rovers.
Derek Bradley was aged 22 when he died.
