Frederick Walter Beardsley, son of James and Ethel Beardsley, of Nottingham and husband of Clarice Beardsley, of New Basford, Nottingham, enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and then volunteered for airborne forces.
Driver Beardsley was posted to 223 Air Despatch Company, and took part in the resupply operation for Market Garden (Arnhem).
Dvr Beardsley was killed in action on 23 September 1944, aged 29. The RCAF 437 Squadron Dakota KG-305, based at Blakehill Farm, crashed, presumably due to flak, southwest of Driel at about 17.00 h. There were no survivors; crew and passengers, 8 men, were all given field burials near the aircraft, in the north east corner of a field, 60 yards south of the gate. They were reinterred to Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery on 11 September 1945.
