Sergeant John G S Lees

John Graham Skirving Lees was the son of Thomas and Margaret Lees; and husband of Freda Lees, of Newbury, Berkshire.

Lees was posted to 1st Airlanding Light Regiment while serving with the Royal Artillery during World War II.

He died as a result of an accident serving as a member of No 1 Battery during the Italian campaign.

Sgt Lees died on 7 October 1943, aged 28 years, and is buried at Bari War Cemetery, Italy.

In an extract from the book "Winged Gunners" by Robert Woolacott page 33, Sgt Lees is mentioned as having come under attack from enemy 88s and 105s whilst in a jeep possibly with Gunner Briggs. During an action near Gambateza.
