Major David John Madden, son of Maj John Grevile Madden, D.S.O. and Annie Madden, of Alverstoke, Hampshire, served with the Royal Artillery. He was awarded the Benson Memorial Prize during his training at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich in 1939.
In 1944, he was attached to HQ 1st Airborne Division and took part in the Battle of Arnhem, during Op Market Garden. He died on 21 September 1944, aged 25 years old and is now buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem.
His brother, Lt Keith M Madden, MC, also died in service.
