Leslie Clissold was born and lived in Wiltshire, he enlisted in the Royal Norfolk Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Clissold successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 114 from 1 to 12 May 1944. His course report stated “Worked hard and cheerfully – average.” He was posted to 13th (2/4th Bn., The South Lancashire Regiment) Battalion the Parachute Regiment, and took part in Operation Varsity (Rhine Crossing).
Pte Clissold was killed in action on 3 April 1945, aged 22, and was given a field burial at Hellern, Germany and was re-interred to Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, on 23 May 1947.
