Kenneth Whitby was born and lived in Manchester, he enlisted in The King’s Regiment and volunteered for airborne forces.
Private Whitby successfully completed parachute training at RAF Kabrit, Egypt, and was posted to 6th (10th Battalion the Royal Welch Fusiliers) Battalion the Parachute Regiment and took part in operations in Italy, Southern France and Greece.
Pte Whitby died of wounds on 9 December 1944, aged 21, and was given a field burial in Kifisia Civil Cemetery and was re-interred to Phaleron War Cemetery on 17 January 1945.
