Sergeant James Young, son of John Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Young, of Omagh, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland, served with 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion. He took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy, during Op Overlord. Previously he had seen service with 1st Rifle Brigade and 151 Bn in India.
Sergeant Young died on 6 June 1944, aged 28 years old.
James was originally from Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He was first buried with many others at Gonneville-sur-Merville and later his body was recovered and reburied at Ranville War Cemetery. Note that the village of Gonneville-sur-Melville changed it's name in 1965 to Gonneville-en-Auge.
