John Thomas Wilson enlisted into the Royal Sussex Regiment in 1941 and volunteered for The Parachute Regiment in 1943. Private Wilson attended Parachute Training course number 52 at RAF Ringway in Feburary 1943. During a night descent, Private Wilson sprained his ankle, causing him to complete his parachute training on course 53, in March. His instructor noted: 'good worker, satisfactory standard'.
Private Wilson was posted to the 9th Parachute Battalion and took part in the D-Day landings to Normandy on 5-6 June 1944.
He died on 6 June 1944, aged 22 years old. He is now buried at Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy.
